RISE TO THE OCCASION
The James Beard Foundation
Anointed the “Dean of American cookery” by the New York Times in 1954, James Beard was a pioneer of American foodie who laid the groundwork for the food revolution that put America at the forefront of global gastronomy. His townhouse in New York City’s West Village was at the forefront of America’s food revolution, and today the “James Beard House” is the Carnegie Hall for chefs.
The Foundation named in his honor is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America’s food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. The Foundation is well known for its prestigious annual media and restaurant awards, but it does far more than just honor excellence.
